The Names of the Notes
As you will now be aware, the guitar has 6 strings. Each of these strings are named as a musical note.
In music letters are assigned to notes. These run from A to G. There are also sharps or flats in between but we will discuss these later.
To tune your guitar you need to know what notes relate to the strings on the guitar.
If you imagine you are holding the guitar the thickest string is closest to the top. This string is named E. This produces the lowest sounding note on the guitar. Whilst this string is at the top of the guitar it is still referred to as the bottom string
The next strings are named as follows:
A
D
G
B
Finally there is another E. This is referred to as the top E.
Using your tuner you should tune it to these notes then you are ready to begin.
