Guitar Books - Rock Lead Performance
I have spent thousands on guitar books trying to find the secret of becoming a better guitar player. Of course, there is no secret it just comes down to hard work and dedication. That’s not to sway some helpful guidance does not help.
If you are looking to by a guitar book or guitar books you will probably have already seen the blurb on the back of these books promising all sorts. Out of the hundreds of books I have bought only a very small minority have actaully helped.
There is one set of guitar books that I myself still use today. Not only have they helped my playing but they are enjoyable to go back to time and time again. The books are really designed for the electric guitarist wanting to get into lead guitar playing.
Rock Lead Basics, Rock Lead Techniques and Rock Lead Performance. My favourite is the latter. Each guitar book comes with a CD with examples and backing tracks.
The guitar books are by 2 guys from the Musicians Institute - Danny Gill and Nick Nolan. Whilst I have only heard of Nick Nolan from these three guitar books, Danny Gill has done several other books and DVDs and in my opinion is a tremendous player and his teaching methods seem very good. I would recommend anything by him.
A lot is covered in these guitar books and I have found myself getting so far then feeling a bit baffled. Coming back to the books a few months later a little more becomes clearer each time. The backing tracks are great and the example solos really are great.
Check out the books at Musicroom - This store is pretty good, especially if you are in the UK as the books arrive very quickly and usually with no postage. They do post worldwide so its worth checking out.
