If you are a guitarist then you may have considered using your skills to help others – and earn a bit of cash along the way. Getting the students is the easiest part – the hard part comes with knowing what to teach when they are there.

I don’t know how to play the guitar… And my brother’s losing patience with me ’cause I asked him to teach me how. Maybe I should let him read your guide. LOL

It takes someone really dedicated to teach guitar, especially to children. It can be very frustrating, but very rewarding. Thanks for the post. It might encourage more teaching.

Great tips in that forum post for anyone who might consider taking up teaching guitar.
In particular, I liked the part about getting the student started learning what they want to learn. Unfortunately, there are still some who doesn’t quite get this vital point.

There are so many advantages that you would be able to get from this handy tips on guitar.I have been trying hard to learn guitar on my own for almost three months without much success, may be i should take your advice. I agree when anyone wants to teach anyone to play the guitar getting the students is the easiest part. It is difficult to know what to teach when they are there. I think we should teach a student as per his or her needs.

Learn some of your favorite songs. It is always best to start learning with songs you are familiar with. CleanTab.com has a great tab archive. I highly recommend their site for guitar tabs.

Hey! This is a great topic! Teaching guitar and playing guitar are too totally different things! You may think you can teach. But, there is so much you forgot about. Like how difficult it really was to get your fingers and hands to move that way. I learned the hard way. Teaching was very difficult for me at first. When my students failed? I felt like I failed! It sucked!

Even if you haven’t been playing long yourself, you can teach guitar – if you have the patience and really want to help people learn. Focus on beginners when you first start because your current level of knowledge will certainly be of benefit to them. As your own playing develops, you will have more to offer intermediate players too.

The most important thing I remember from my teacher was that he told me always focus on what I was hearing, not reading. It was easier for me to learn guitar with my ears and not so much with my eyes.
